Spotlight on: Rieko Koga
From elaborate woven installations to mini fabric embroideries, Rieko Koga’s style is unmistakable. Her linework, whether embroidered as actual words or abstract shapes, gives off a loose and playful sensibility that at first glance looks simple.
She works mostly in black thread on white fabric, and each piece has a wild energy – it looks like the threads will go sprinting off the fabric at any time. It’s impossible to not wonder about the significance of her words and numbers – if there is any symbolism or meaning behind them.
